The Whitlow Ranch is located in California's coast county of Humboldt. The county is one of the most picturesque counties in the state of California. It's terrain includes breathtaking coastlines, Redwood forests and rugged Mountains. It is the coastal range of mountains which roll down through the foothills into the Pacific coast. Average annual precipitation in the area is between 30 and 60 inches. Rain falls between October and April, generally with the heaviest rainfall occurring during January and February.

The county is rich with state parks, national forests, seashores and harbors. Consequently, in addition to the natural beauty, recreational opportunities abound including bicycling, canoeing, mountain climbing, fishing, hiking and horseback riding, and hunting. Fall spawning runs of salmon and steelhead attract many fishermen to the region.

The Whitlow Ranch is very close to several state parks, the closest being the Founder's Grove State Park. Eureka, the county seat, 45 miles to the north is known as a Victorian seaport. The population of Eureka including the immediate areas is approximately 50,000. Most major services are available in Eureka.
