| LOCATION The beauty of the California redwood region has made the area a major tourist destination. This region contains over 100 miles of unspoiled coastline and six of California's most pristine rivers. One of those six rivers, the Mad River borders and runs through major portions of the Hunter Ranch. An added benefit are the 40 county, state and national parks in the area; many of which contain giant old growth redwoods. The area
is a multisport paradise. The six rivers provide great white water rafting.
Cycling has become very popular which has resulted in the startup of
several cycling tours including the famous Tour of the Unknown Coast.
Fishing is great and multifaceted. You can charter an ocean going boat
for salmon, lingcod or other fish while other avid sportsmen flock to
the area rivers for salmon and steelhead. Hiking in the many parks is
very popular. Surfing has become a popular sport in recent years. Wet
suits are not optional. There is much more. Whether you're into rock
climbing, sail boarding, trekking, hunting or any number of hard-core
adventure sports, the redwood region is a land of thrills and challenges
waiting to be discovered The area is also home to many artists which has resulted in the establishment of several art and craft museums in the local communities. Humboldt State University, located in Arcata, is well known for it's art instruction programs. |
